About SEDI

Sambal — the Skill and Entrepreneurship Development Institute (SEDI) operated from April 2013 to 2025 in the Ajmer district of Rajasthan. The institute aimed to address the skill-building needs of rural women and youth for their overall development, livelihood, and quality survival.

BSS was approved as a registered Training Centre by the Rajasthan Knowledge Corporation Ltd. (RKCL) (ITGK Code: 12290170) for running certification courses. Over its twelve years, 300+ young people completed RS-CIT or a sewing certificate through the centre.

Proximity was the point. A young woman in a village outside Ajmer may be permitted to attend a course twenty minutes away and not one in the city, so the distance decides who gets trained at all.

Programme Conclusion

The Covid-19 lockdowns stopped admissions altogether. For two full years the centre took none. Recovery was slow but real: the 2023-24 session brought 25 admissions and 2024-25 reached 35. The Government of Rajasthan then raised the minimum admissions needed to continue operating as a Gyan Kendra to 50. The centre could not reach that number and has consequently closed; many centres across the state closed for the same reason. BSS remains committed to skill development for rural youth and is exploring alternative channels, including NSDC-affiliated programmes and vocational partnerships, for revival.
